FAQ varia

From MusiCAD
After I created a new game last week and converted it to PDF, I can't start MusiCAD anymore. Do you know what the problem is and how to fix it?
We really need some more information for that...
  • which Windows version are you using?
  • how are you trying to start MusiCAD?
  • what exactly happens when you start MusiCAD - error message?. Crash?
Strange things are happening after I installed a new version of MusiCAD
Restore the default settings with the green button green. You can first try to restore only the settings you have problems with by pressing the default button on one of the dialog boxes under [Options].
The notation staff is not completely (or not at all) rewritten correctly!
Use <n> to refresh the screen.
Why is there suddenly a red note hanging on the cursor?
The red note Rood nootje.png indicates that mouse mode is enabled with mouse arrow: clicking on the staff inserts a new note after the place where it was clicked.
I don't like the key combinations of MusiCAD. Is there anything I can do about that?
Yes, you can arrange the keyboard to your own taste. See the *.MSD files for more information.
Some key combinations like <'> and <~> don't work!
That could be due to the Windows settings; see under input language.
In the absence of a 'numeric island' on my notebook, it would be very nice if the question mark could be used for octave instead of <shift-8> How can I add that shortcut definition?
See the help for [Hotkey assignment]:
  • [Help|Key Commands]
  • Find shortcut: ?
  • Right-click on the empty command field.
  • find command: 'PitchIncOctave' or ' Raise cursor note by octave '.
  • [Ok]
  • [Ok]
  • save (possibly under a different name).
I don't want to hear sound with every mistake. Can I turn off that warning sound?
Yes... If you clear a sound type in [Options|Music and MIDI|Sounds] you will no longer hear a sound signal for the situation in question.
If I request a melody, go to change, do not change anything, and request another melody, I get the message that my music was changed. How is that possible, if I really have not changed anything?
MusiCAD will always adjust the bar lines in all other parts than the main melody for melodies with more than 1 part, based on the main melody. As a result, a second (third etc.) voice will appear to have been changed, and with it the melody. MusiCAD 'rightly' notices this when opening or closing and asks what should be done.
Suddenly a lot of keys no longer work. What could be wrong?
