Should not occur

From MusiCAD
(Redirected from Should not happen)

In a number of cases, an unexpected Should not occur (and hopefully rare) error may occur that the MusiCAD software does not (yet) know what to do with. A message will appear on the screen as below:

illegal 9998

What is important here is the 4-digit error code and any additional information given afterwards.

In many cases it is possible to continue as normal (choose ok or ignore); In some cases, there is a chance that this message is the first of a very large series of subsequent error messages. In that case, only the first error message is of serious importance; once such a should-not-be-occurred error has occurred, then all error information afterward becomes rather meaningless.

With the option [Abort] MusiCAD is aborted in a more or less neat manner. Any changes can then be restored again when MusiCAD is restarted.

To help resolve the issue in question, do the following: Try to reproduce the error message. If that works, send a message to bugs@musicad.nl with how to reproduce the problem, preferably accompanied by the music in question.

The four-digit error code is a reference in the program code that can sometimes be used to trace a possible cause. If these types of Should-not-happen error messages occur repeatedly, it is wise to report this with as good a description as possible of the circumstances under which the error occurred.

After choosing [Ignore] you will be given a second option in which you can suppress further similar error messages:

[Yes] for ignoring this one message;
[All] for ignoring these types of errors during the remainder of the session;
[No] for ignoring these types of errors in this calculation.

If you immediately select [Abort], MusiCAD will be terminated. Usually these types of errors occur when something is wrong with the settings. Restoring default settings with the green button is often the remedy.

Another cause may be the way you use MusiCAD. MusiCAD was created from a design philosophy; If you try to work with MusiCAD in a different way than we have anticipated, there is a (much) greater chance that problems will occur.
