A tune's mode describes the scale used. Apart from the usual scales major and minor there are lots of other scales which may need to be brought under attention of the player. A tune written in the scale of D-dorian should have no accidentals (just as C-major or A-minor) but will have a very different feeling. On importing mode-aware abc-tunes the mode-field will be provided.
