Braces in a score can be used to group parts. In the score dialog [ will assign bracing to the part. Repeated use toggles between brace and group 'brace-break'. A brace-break end bracing in score if multiple groupes are to be braced in 1 score. A brace is used to group parts such as stringed-instruments, woodwinds, and brass within a score. Grouped this way, the barlines are usually not extended between the parts in one group.
